4p BLADE RUNNER: THE FINAL CUT (dir by Ridley Scott, adapted from the Philip K. 1982's watermark sci-fi Blade Runner is one of those masterpieces that is still wholely unique unto itself. An adaptaiton of Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, the movie follows former LAPD police detective Rick Deckard (an impossibly cool Harrison Ford) as he gets tasked by his old boss with hunting and terminating "Replicants"-robots that look and act almost exactly like humans. The problem is that a rogue replicant group lead by charismatic (sociopathic?) Roy Batty (a never better Rutger Hauer) is trying to hide out in retro-future Los Angeles and will K*ll anyone who tries to K*ll them.
Deckard's odyssey takes him all the way to Tyrell, the Replicant inventor, who reveals a new kind of replicant that doesn't even know they're a robot in the form of femme fatale Rachael (a stunning Sean Young). Tyrell has given his new replicants human memories so they think they're human.
Filmmaker Ridley Scott created such an immersive retro-future sci fi Los Angeles world and vibe that everybody has been chasing it ever since. The early 80's synth score by Vangelis still sounds like it's from the future.
The Final Cut (which we show on 35mm) is the best version of the film including a famous ambiguous ending that makes us question who is and who isn't a replicant.
We live in a vibe time and this is the ultimate vibe movie. Come see it on 35mm. We're Los Angelinos and this is one of the ultimate LA movies.
