Home Portrait — 3-Week Watercolor WorkshopDates: Sundays, January 17, 24th, & 31st. Snow day of February 7th. (Please make sure you're available all 4 dates before registering)
Turn a meaningful place into a watercolor painting of your own.
Over three weeks, we’ll create a custom home portrait from start to finish. Paint your own home, a childhood home, someone else’s home as a gift, a wedding venue, a favorite building, or another special place you’d love to capture in watercolor.
I’ll walk you through the entire process step by step, demonstrating each stage along the way and providing one-on-one instruction whenever needed. No experience is required, although Watercolor 101 or Intro to Watercolor is always recommended before taking any workshop.
What We’ll Cover
Week 1 — Laying the Groundwork
We’ll start by getting your composition onto watercolor paper using sketching, tracing, and other tools designed to make your life easier. Then we’ll begin with very light washes across the background and building to establish the foundation for your painting.
Week 2 — Building Color & Dimension
Now we build! We’ll develop the background and establish the base colors of the building, then begin working with shadows, color blocking, architectural features, and the elements that make your building recognizable.
Week 3 — Bringing It to Life
This is where everything comes together. We’ll add the details, deepen shadows, introduce highlights, create dimension, refine architectural features, and add those final touches that transform your painting into a finished home portrait.
Your Reference Photo
Because everyone will be painting a different building, I need your reference photo(s) within 48 hours of registration so I have time to review them before the workshop begins. You’re welcome to send multiple photos if you’re unsure which will work best.
Just Show Up & Paint
All supplies are provided. You don’t need to purchase or bring brushes, paints, paper, or other materials. Just show up ready to paint!
Feel free to bring your favorite food and/or beverage to enjoy while you work.
Please note: Workshop registrations are final sale. There are no refunds, credits, exchanges, or transfers for missed classes or cancellations. Because this is a three-week progressive workshop, each week builds upon the work completed in the previous session.
