Join Mike's Camera and West Coast Falconry for a three-part birds of prey photography workshop !
Get a rare opportunity to photograph an assortment of captive birds of prey in their natural habitats during our Birds of Prey Photography Workshop in Partnership with . This fun workshop consists of a Virtual Seminar to teach you how to set your camera to capture the action and detail, a hands on photo shoot where we will break into 2 groups and a virtual gallery and critique to showcase your best results. An all-inclusive hands-on workshop for every level of photographer.
Overview
Workshop includes an evening of instruction in the Mike's Camera Virtual Classroom, followed by a Saturday morning photo excursion with birds of prey at West Coast Falconry in Marysville, and then a follow up virtual critique & image review session.
What You’ll Learn
- Techniques to make great portraits of birds while they are static in the trees
- Best methods of photographing birds in mid-flight
- Composition, exposure, depth of field, shutter speed, panning, focusing tips, awareness of light; as they pertain to bird photography

Evening Lecture: Meet up in the Mike's Camera Virtual Classroom to learn the ins and outs of making great birds of prey photos; the lecture includes two parts:
- Part 1: Making portraits of birds while they are static in the trees. Topics include light, composition, exposure and depth of field.
- Part 2: Photographing birds in mid-flight. Topics include shutter speed, panning with action, auto focusing modes, focusing tips and more.
This session will be recorded for attendees to review for a minimum of 14 days.
Saturday Morning Photo Excursion
Meet up at West Coast Falconry in Marysville to photograph an assortment of birds of prey. You'll have the rare experience to photograph all of the birds in their natural habitat. Instructors from Mike's Camera will be there to answer any technical questions and provide you hands-on assistance and instruction to show you tricks to capture sensational images.
There is not a lot of walking during the workshop, however there is uneven ground, rocks, and tree limbs throughout the workshop. Please remember that we are photographing outside, The bugs like to join us sometimes so please bring bug spray with you.
Follow up Critique & Image Review
Meet back up online to wrap up the workshop with a fun and rewarding critique or your photographs! The group will review images from the Saturday excursion and share techniques that really worked, and those that were not as useful. You'll be astonished by the immense variety of images that will have been captured and spend some time giving and receiving positive and informative feedback.
This session will be recorded for attendees to review for a minimum of 7 days.
