Calling all young creators, makers, artists, and entrepreneurs!Our 2nd Annual Children’s Market Day is all about giving kids the opportunity to experience what happens when creativity, hard work, and a little courage come together!
Children 17 years old and under are invited to create their own business, make their own products, set up a booth, talk with customers, and experience the excitement of selling something they worked hard to create.
The most important rule:
All items sold must be created and/or made primarily by the child.
Parents and guardians, we know you’re going to help—and we WANT you to help! But this day is for the kids. This isn’t a competition between adults to see who can create the fanciest booth or the most professional-looking products. We want every child, regardless of age, ability, or experience, to feel proud and excited about what THEY created.
Help them, encourage them, teach them—but let it be theirs.
Let your child choose the name of their business—even if it isn’t the name you would have picked! Help them think about what they want to make, how much it costs to make it, and what they should charge. Let them help decorate their booth and decide how they want to display their creations.
Before Market Day, spend some time practicing with them. Teach them how to make change with cash. (Parents/guardians are responsible for providing the cash needed to make change on Market Day.) Talk about looking customers in the eye, greeting them, explaining how they made their products, answering questions, saying “thank you,” and taking pride in their work.
You might even use the opportunity to talk about giving back. Ask your child if there is a local organization, cause, or community service project they care about and whether they would like to donate a small portion of their profits.
This day is about so much more than making money.
We are not expecting children to “make a bunch of money.” The real profit is the experience.
It’s learning that an idea can become something real.
It’s discovering that hard work can pay off.
It’s learning how to speak with people, count money, solve problems, make decisions, and take responsibility.
It’s watching a child proudly tell a customer, “I made this!”
And THAT is what Children’s Market Day is all about.
Last year, one of the best parts of the entire day was seeing how excited and proud the children were about what they had created. We cannot wait to see their ideas, their businesses, their booths, and those proud smiles again at our 2nd Annual Children’s Market Day!
Let them create. Let them work. Let them learn. And most importantly—let them be proud of something that is truly theirs.
