It time to get cold! The 2027 the Schock & Shivers 5k and Cold Water Challenge is a Team Chesapeake Law Enforcement United event to fundraise for the Road to Hope. Join us at Oak Grove Park on January 23, 2027, where we will honor Chesapeake officers Tim Schock and Jarrod Shivers, who were killed in the line of duty. This race will warm up your body while running, and give you a chance to cool off at the end - by taking the Cold Water Challenge in the Timothy Schock Memorial Lake. Team Chesapeake is part of the larger Law Enforcement United, a 501c3 that fundraises annually for the Road to Hope, a 250-mile bike ride to honor the fallen and remember the survivors. Your registration will get you a Schock & Shivers 5k and Cold Water Challenge runner bag and a finisher medal for all participants. Register before 1/2/2027 to get a Schock & Shivers shirt in as part of your registration! Team Chesapeake will also have merch for purchase at the event. Completing the Cold Water Challenge will earn participants a special gift while the last. All runners will still receive the shirt, medal, and swag bag if registered prior to 1/2/2027!
Virtual Participants will receive a race shirt (prior to 1/2) and a finisher medal, to be shipped to your address!
There will be prizes for the fastest runners! Categories are still being decided; but like all races, the more runners, the more winners! Timing is provided by Tidewater Striders for this race! Don't worry though, none of your event coordinators are breaking world records!
𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐒𝐄
Timothy Schock Memorial Lake at Oak Grove Park is a 1.5 mile loop around on a trail-style path. The race will start at the Tim Schock Memorial, placed in honor of the officer who died in a diving accident in the Oak Grove Lake.
The event will take place shine or rain! In the event of wintry weather (like 2026!), a decision will be made and all racers will be notified as to future steps.

Want to support a great cause but cannot make it to Chesapeake? No worries! Run the 5k wherever you are at - we'll mail your shirt to you, you just have to provide your own ice bucket for effect! The virtual 5k is $40 and registration is open until 1/22/2027. We'll ship your shirt to you (if registered prior to 1/2), so it'll be like you were here with us!
