How many times can you choose to go one more?
Laps For Love is a backyard ultra built around a simple idea: keep showing up, one lap at a time, for yourself, for the runners beside you, and for families in our community who need someone to keep showing up for them too.
Held at Sedgwick County Park in Wichita, Kansas, Laps For Love benefits Family Promise of Greater Wichita, a nonprofit organization helping local families experiencing homelessness achieve lasting independence. $100 of every registration directly supports that mission.
The race follows the traditional backyard ultra format. Runners complete a 4.167-mile loop every hour, on the hour. Finish your loop in 45 minutes? You have 15 minutes to eat, drink, change socks, sit down, or question every decision that brought you here. Finish in 59 minutes? You have one minute to refuel.
Either way, when the next hour begins with the bell, you have to be back at the starting line.
Then you go again.
There is no predetermined finish distance. Sixteen miles might be your victory. Maybe it is your first marathon. Your first 50K. Your first 50 miles. Your first 100. Maybe you discover that the limit you came in with was never actually your limit at all.
The race continues until only one runner remains capable of completing another yard. Last year, that came after hour 37 covering 154 miles.
But Laps For Love is about much more than finding a last runner standing.
It is about the person who stays an extra hour because another runner believes in them. It is crews helping people they met that morning. It is volunteers ringing cowbells in the middle of the night. It is strangers becoming friends somewhere between exhaustion, laughter, questionable food choices, and another walk back to the starting corral.
You will have good loops. You will have terrible loops. You will probably experience both within the same hour.
Just don't quit in the chair. Get yourself back to the line. Because in the end, we must keep moving forward. Because every child deserves a home.
We will endure together!
