LUMA8 and the City of Chicago are delighted to present the 6th Annual Upside Down Halloween Parade on Saturday, October 31st, from 12-2pm in Washington Park!Chicago children and their families will BECOME the parade when they don their costumes and join the procession down tree-lined Russell Drive. Dance teams, musicians, acrobats, sports mascots and other spectacles will dazzle them as they make their way down the route – and kids will receive a complimentary candy bag and other goodies at the closing arches.
Launched in 2020 as a way for families to celebrate Halloween during the pandemic, the Upside Down Halloween Parade continues to provide thousands of Chicago children with a safe way to participate in Halloween festivities. Dressing up in costumes and trick or treating door to door is not an option in every neighborhood of the city, so this event ensures every Chicago child has a chance to “be a kid” on Halloween.
Another important goal of the event is to offer local families an introduction to dozens of arts organizations that feature programs for children and young adults. We want parents and kids to be inspired by the performers – and to see a place for themselves in the arts. Whether it’s through a dance team, a drumline, circus acrobats or our 12-year old DJ, the Upside Down Halloween Parade celebrates the power of creative expression.
The event has become a beloved tradition in Washington Park we expect close to 8,000 attendees at this year’s event.
The Upside Down Halloween Parade is presented by LUMA8 and the City of Chicago and sponsored by Ferrara and Amazon. The event is produced in partnership with the Chicago Park District and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. Additional support provided by MARS, Haribo and the Washington Park Chamber of Commerce.
