About this Event
The Big Chill Surf Cantina is stoked to host the 9th Annual Sling N' Squash Competition on Saturday, November 7th, from 12–5pm! Get ready for one of Sussex County’s most epic pumpkin-throwing events as our beasts of strength battle it out to see who can sling their squash the farthest.
How to Enter
Preregistration is required. Competitors must be 21 or older to participate!
Registration is $30 per competitor and includes a limited-edition event t-shirt. $15 from each registration will be donated to benefit Celebrate Wellness.
Competitors will be challenged to throw a 15–18 lb. pumpkin from a designated 6' x 6' throwing area. Distance will be measured from the first point of impact.
Each competitor will get two throws, with both distances combined to determine their total score.
Competitors will compete in one of four divisions:
- Men’s 21–40
- Women’s 21–40
- Men’s 40+
- Women’s 40+
Finale
The top three throwers in each division will advance to the final round. The competitor with the farthest throw in the finale will be crowned the division champion.
Prizes will be awarded for each division:
1st Place: $200 cash prize, trophy & bragging rights!
2nd Place: $100 Big Chill Gift Card & trophy
3rd Place: $50 Big Chill Gift Card & trophy
Spectators
The event is free to attend and open to guests 21+!
Watch as competitors battle it out to see who can chuck their pumpkin the farthest. The best part? Seeing the different techniques competitors use to launch their pumpkins. They don't always go according to plan, making for some truly hilarious moments!
Enjoy delicious beer, cocktails and food from Shore Island Food Truck while you watch the competition.
The competition will begin at 1:00pm
Parking
Parking is FREE for this event. Once our main parking lot fills up, please park in our overflow lot located by Pete’s Steak Shop.
Beneficiary
This year’s event will benefit Celebrate Wellness, a local nonprofit focused on supporting the mental wellness of hospitality workers. $15 from every competitor registration, plus a portion of event sales, will be donated to Celebrate Wellness.
