About this Event
The project is open to 4-H members ages 5-18 who reside in one of the counties located in the Savannah Valley Region and/or District. This includes the following counties: Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Berkeley, Calhoun, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton, Jasper, and Orangeburg.Each project participant will have the opportunity to participate in the county, regional, and state shows. For 2026, it is the responsibility of the youth and his/her family to secure a hog for the project. If you need assistance locating a hog, contact Meghan Waller at [email protected]. You must be registered by June 15, 2026 in order to be eligible for project awards.The registration fee of $15 to participate in the project includes:
- Participation in clinics.
- Opportunity to participate in regional shows
- Educational opportunities
- Project Newsletter
- Opportunity to sell one hog in the final sale.
Expectations and Requirements of Participants:
- Provide quality care of hog
- Participate in a community service projectParticipate in at least one event or educational activity (show is applicable).
- Complete a record book.
- Youth will also need to complete and turn in an animal identification form by August 1st and a sale record form by October 1st.
- Note: A one time $15 4-H membership fee is required per year per participant. With the membership, youth will receive a t-shirt as well as access to everything else 4-H has to offer. If you are not already a member, contact your local 4-H Extension Agent. You must remain an active 4-H member throughout the entirety of the project. The 4-H year begins on September 1st and ends on August 31st annually. Membership may be renewed by visiting: 4-H Online.
Refund statement: Full payment is due upon registration. No refunds will be issued within three weeks of the start of the event.
Membership requirement: Current 4-H membership in is required for participation in this event.
Custodial Care: Please note that this event and its coordinators do not assume custodial care of youth in attendance. Adults (parents, guardians, volunteers, coaches, or chaperones) must be present for the supervision of youth participants.
