About this Event

Join us on Thursday, October 8th at the Museum of African American History in Boston for the 2026 MAAH Stone Book Award! This highly anticipated social and scholarly event honors three authors whose new books have made significant contributions to documenting African American history and the African American experience.

The three exceptional 2026 finalists are:

Ashley D. Farmer: Queen Mother: Black Nationalism, Reparations, and the Untold Story of Audley Moore (Pantheon/Penguin Random House)

Jarvis R. Givens: American Grammar: Race, Education, and the Building of a Nation (Harper/HarperCollins)

Jarvis C. McInnis: Afterlives of the Plantation: Plotting Agrarian Futures in the Global Black South (Columbia University Press)

Enjoy a FREE wine and hors d’oeuvres reception before gathering in the historic African Meeting House to find out which one of these three outstanding authors will win our $50,000 prize!

The first 100 people to arrive receive a free signed copy of one of the finalist books.

WHEN: Thursday, October 8, 2026. Reception at 5:30pm/Award presentation at 6:30pm.

WHERE: Museum of African American History, Boston Campus, 46 Joy St, Boston, MA 02114

The reception takes place in the Susan Paul Room. At 6:30pm (ET) we will move to the historic African Meeting House (this portion of the evening will be livestreamed).

The winning author will be announced LIVE at the event! Two finalists will each win $10,000 and the winning author will win $50,000!

Enjoy a lively discussion between the winning author and GBH host Callie Crossley followed by an audience Q&A with all three authors.

End the evening by receiving a free signed copy of one of the finalist books (if you are one of the lucky first 100 people to arrive).
