About this Event
American Women for International Understanding (AWIU) is hosting its Tenth Annual Career Opportunities in International Relations (COIR) Symposium on Friday, October 16, 2026. The symposium will be held at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library Conference Center in Washington, D.C.
The theme of this year's symposium, Resilient Women in Global Careers, will be explored through presentations, panels, and discussion groups. This milestone tenth anniversary event will reflect our shared commitment to lead in the global arena despite current challenges.
This day-long event will run from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM and will feature breakout sessions on resourcing women-led community development, financial literacy, online violence against women, and technology challenges. A panel discussion will cover strategies for remaining resilient and forward-looking during the current period of flux in the international relations job market. The Symposium will also offer ample networking opportunities with academic and job recruiters and representatives of NGOs and government agencies.
Since 1968, AWIU has connected U.S. women leaders to their counterparts worldwide to foster understanding, advance human rights, and strengthen communities through partnerships, mentorship, and microgrants. Since 2015, AWIU has organized an annual COIR Symposium to provide career information and networking opportunities to young women interested in global issues and international engagement.
