Learn how to join FABSCRAP as a Workshop Instructor!
We’re looking for active community members and/or (soon-to-be) leaders to instructor or assist our workshops! At these monthly engaging and community-driven events we'll be teaching skills to repurpose, repair, and/or upcycle FABSCRAP textile waste!
What’s the Plan?
In 2025, we will be hosting a workshop the first Monday of each month at FABSCRAP's warehouse in Brooklyn Army Terminal, Sunset Park. During which, we'll be instructing skills to promote circular fashion. Skills include, but are not limited to mending, knitting, fiber identification, darning, embroidery, measuring, photographing, and more—all using FABSCRAP’s treasures!
As an instructor, you’ll guide participants (with lesson planning and prep available from FABSCRAP) toward a shared goal to end commercial textile waste. There is also an opportunity for assistant instructors for those who aren't yet confident running a workshop. Together, we’re building a community that celebrates creativity, sustainability, and inclusion!
Who are we Looking For?
Previous instructor experience is not required but active participation in/with local community groups is preferred. FABSCRAP is seeking to connect with more communities by collaborating with their members and/or leaders as workshop instructors. Assistant instructor opportunities too!
We’re excited to bring on NYC instructors from diverse backgrounds, especially voices from BIPOC, LGBTQAI+, disabled, plus-size, and other underrepresented communities. Circular fashion thrives when we all share our skills, knowledge, and unique perspectives. As an instructor, you’ll help bridge the gap by empowering and educating communities often left out of these conversations.
Why Does This Matters?
These workshops are about so much more than sharing skills. By leading a workshop, you’re part of a bigger mission: reducing textile waste and sparking change in how we all view clothing, not to mention actively building community.Plus, the thought and resource sharing that organically stems from our workshops helps participants take these values back to their own communities, spreading a circular mindset that lasts.
