About this Event
Join us for a virtual event on December 11th, from 6:30pm to 7:30pm, where we'll discuss how Wild Virginia’s programs are adapting to the post-election landscape--and what you can do to help protect the places you love.
Hear from Conservation Director David Sligh on potential changes to the Clean Water Act and agency approaches to implementation. We will be guarding against weakening of protections to Virginia's environment, wildlife, and public, highlighting threats from toxic per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are already being found at alarming levels in Virginia's streams and drinking water. He'll also touch on threats to stormwater pollution controls, one of the most widespread causes of impairments to our waters, and how the impacts of expanded approvals of oil and gas infrastructure in Virginia would damage water quality for generations. Importantly, David will explain how Wild Virginia's emphasis on state regulatory systems can fill voids left by deficiencies in federal law and policies.
Hear from Director of Habitat Connectivity Jessica Roberts, Ph.D. on the pressing and bipartisan need to reduce wildlife-vehicle conflicts and the immense benefits these crossings and habitat corridors offer, including enhanced public safety, biodiversity, and climate resilience. She'll also discuss how wildlife-vehicle conflict legislation ties to flood risk mitigation and significant long-term cost savings.
For those ready to take action, this session will cover how to step up and advocate for a sustainable, healthy Virginia. Learn how Wild Virginia is equipping citizens from across the Commonwealth with fundamental knowledge of key environmental laws, regulatory processes, and public advocacy skills necessary to influence positive decisions and outcomes.
Also hear from Wild Virginia's Board of Directors on the organization's resilient and long-term commitment to protecting and connecting Virginia's wild places.
