About this Event
Rethink the story we were taught about Thanksgiving. Join us for an evening of truth-telling and community healing, guided by local Indigenous organizers.
First held in 2006, Thangs Taken: Rethinking Thanksgiving challenges the colonial “thanksgiving” narrative by centering Native resistance through art, music, ancestral knowledge, and oral storytelling. Thanksgiving’s story erases history that is still unfolding: the ongoing fight for land, sovereignty, and recognition on the ancestral homelands of the Chochenyo-speaking Lisjan Ohlone.
Join us for an evening of:
- Live performances
- Ceremony
- Poetry
- Vendors
- Community organizations sharing their local resistance work
This event is part of the broader network of Bay Area Indigenous traditions and activism, including the Alcatraz Indigenous Peoples’ Sunrise Ceremony, this gathering is both medicine and movement building. It brings together Native culture bearers, activists, and accomplices to advocate for land rematriation and Indigenous sovereignty, locally and globally, and is a reminder of the ongoing possibilities of #LANDBACK.
All proceeds go directly to the Indigenous organizers of this gathering.
