The 2-Day TCNA Sac-Shasta Track and Sign Certification offers unique experiences for naturalists of all experience levels looking to develop their wildlife tracking skills and learn to read the stories animals leave on the landscape. Participants engage with real wildlife tracks and signs to sharpen their skills and enhance their knowledge. This certification workshop provides an unparalleled, hands-on learning experience. For more information on what to expect at the certification, see https://trackercertification.com/what-to-expect/ This certification will be led by Tracker Certification North American (TCNA) evaluator Phil Johnston. Phil is a professional wildlife tracker and mountain lion biologist for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife where he leads mountain lion research and management on the Sierras, pioneering non-lethal strategies to protect endangered Sierra bighorn from mountain lion predation. Phil is a Track and Sign Evaluator with Cyber Tracker and Tracker Certification North America and has participated in the evaluation process since 2010. Phil specializes in applied tracking for wildlife conservation, with a focus on trailing large carnivores for research captures and cause of mortality investigations. He is passionate about training staff at wildlife conservation and management agencies, reviving the use of field skills and ecological knowledge in modern applications, and making wildlife tracking a more accessible skill to people from all walks of life, as well as improving accuracy in scientific data collection.
