1st Annual Women in the Wilds Expo

Feminist Bird Club will be taking the nature express bus to Sand Ridge Nature Center on Saturday, March 29th. The bus will leave 9:00AM from A N Pritzker Public School in Wicker Park, we hope this is central enough location for everyone but please email us if not accessible to you. CTA Bus Stop at Damen and Schiller is the closest serviced by #50 there is also the #72 nearby ~7 minutes or .3 miles away at North Ave & Hoyne and the #56 at Milwaukee & Honore, ~ 5 minutes or .2 miles away. The CTA blue line train stops ~4 minutes or .2 miles away at Damen. There is free street parking on Schiller St. and Wicker Park Ave. along Wicker (Charles, Joel) Park, paid street parking along Damen.

Sand Ridge has several accessible birding options including indoor seated birding at their bird feeders where you are sure to see an array of woodpeckers, sparrows and more.

Sand Ridge is having their first annual Women in the Wilds Expo to Celebrate women in conservation and the natural sciences with presentations, hands-on activities, and information promoting job and volunteer opportunities. You are welcome to attend any of the programming or take the opportunity to bird solo or with our group guided by Zelle one of the Feminist Bird Club organizers.

Presentation Schedule:10 am - "Careers in Conservation" panel discussion with Q&A11 am - "Animal Care Careers" talk featuring a Sand Ridge ambassador animal!

Special Activities: Face painting, Nature play, Guided walks, Brush pile burn demo, Tree climb demo, Ecological restoration project, Seed starting, Junior naturalist challenge, Citizen science training.

By 12:00 PM we will meet back at the bus and depart back to Chicago hopefully we will arrive at the school before 1 in time for folks to have lunch.

At any point of this outing, you are welcome to engage in the programming, bird inside, bird on your own etc., but you are responsible for yourself and need to adhere to bus schedule.

Dress for the weather, we recommend layers, bring a mask to wear on the bus, and your own water and snacks and any other supplies you may need to stay comfortable throughout this outing. There are bathrooms and water fountains in the center.

Binoculars available to borrow.

Please do not register if you are not sure you are able to attend. For headcount on the bus we need accurate numbers in order to continue to use this service in the future.
