About this Event
On November 8, 2026, Mount Pleasant Group is honoured to hold its first Indigenous Veterans Day Service, creating a space to honour and remember First Nations, Inuit, and Métis veterans.
Indigenous Veterans Day is observed annually on November 8 to honour the service and sacrifices of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis veterans. The day began as a grassroots initiative in Winnipeg in 1993, led by the National Aboriginal Veterans Association, and was formally recognized in Manitoba in 1994. Established in response to the exclusion of Indigenous veterans from many traditional acts of remembrance, the day creates space to honour Indigenous service and sacrifice while acknowledging the histories that led to its creation.
The ceremony will be led by Indigenous Veteran Reverend Levi Samson Beardy, and will be honoured with a Sacred Fire, Pipe Ceremony, and local drummers. The Beaded Poppy images were generously shared to support the promotion of this initiative by Proud Wednesday Beading Co.
Following the ceremony, guests are welcome to join us for lunch at the O. M. Martin Legion #345. This feast will be catered by Anishinaabe Chef Charles Catchpole. Starts at 12:00 P.M.
Registration is optional, but please RSVP to confirm your attendance if you would like to join us the feast.
