Please join us for the 15th Annual Hungarian Picnic. We will celebrate with wonderful food, friends and fun. We ask you bring a Hungarian dish of something to share, it can be hot food, appetizer, dessert, bread etc. We will provide Goulash, Rye Bread, Coffee, Bottled Water and Cold Drinks as well as the paper goods. If you can a chair for yourself that would be great.
There will be space and electric for keeping food hot. We will also have a nice big fire going to cook some of that wonderful Hungarian bacon.
Because it is a milestone picnic, we wanted to ask everyone to write a little story about how and when they (or their family line) got to the US and a bit about your family to share (like where they came from and if there are still relatives "back home.".) We can do a PowerPoint presentation or each family can speak directly to the group, Maybe gather some photos together of your family here and in Hungary to share....just start thinking about it for now.
We have designed a t shirt for the picnic to celebrate the 15th year. The cost should be $20.00 and we will order as requested. There will be men's, ladies and children's sizes. If you are interested, please let me know size(s) and then I will provide a Venmo link to pay for them no later than 10/12. . WE WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO HAVE EVERYONE WEAR ONE FOR AN AWESOME GROUP PHOTO. The proceeds from the shirts will go the Colonel Michael Kovats Statue Fund.
This year we are planning a cookie decorating event; the cookies and icing will be provided along with templates to do the decorating. There will also be a Csiga Noodle Making event, you will get to learn on wooden Csiga Noodle Boards from Hungary. We did both in April in VA at the Hungarian festival we attended. So much fun! That being said, we are looking for a couple of adults to supervise those events, so probably a total of 4 adults.
Final thoughts:
Not sure everyone is aware of this but we are very much involved in this exciting cause. There will be a group from Washington, DC joining us this year at the picnic to celebrate and get the SC folks excited about this statue that will be built in Marion Square, how exciting our Hungarian heritage being on Marion Square a place we all know so well.
As Hungarian-American residents of Charleston, we are proud to support a monumental, historic effort lead by the Hungary Foundation to erect an equestrian statue of Colonel Michael Kováts—Hungarian hero of the American Revolution and a founding father of the U.S. Cavalry—here in Charleston.
This project offers South Carolina’s Hungarian-American community a unique opportunity to honor our shared heritage while highlighting Hungary’s important contribution to American independence. We invite you to join us with a donation of any size and help make this historic memorial a reality.
Please donate and share the campaign with your family and friends:
