Dear friends of Williamstown Uniting Church-Electra St (formerly St John's)This year marks a significant milestone in our congregation's life: the 150th anniversary of the construction and opening of the Electra Street church. We joyfully invite you to join us for the celebrations in November.
The original opening in December 1876 was marked by a full week of activities. While our program this year is more modest, it reflects the same spirit of gratitude, community, and hope.
As you will see from the attached invitation, the anniversary events will take place across the weekend of the First Sunday of Advent, 27th, 28th & 29th November 2026. With a few months of preparation still ahead, some details are still being finalised, but the outline is as follows:
Friday evening 27th Nov 7pm – 10pm. Music and Singing
This evening features a celebration of our Methodist roots and musical heritage, with contributions from choirs and organists. The evening will include a short presentation on the history of the church, the organ, and the changes across the decades.
Saturday 28th Nov 10am to 2:30pm. Children’s Activities, Exhibitions, Tours and Talks
Saturday, we open our church to offer guided tours, in-depth historical talks, visual displays and presentations, Devonshire teas, and children’s activities.
Sunday 29th Nov 10am to 1pm. Celebratory Service and Lunch.
This is the highlight of the celebrations, with our anniversary service featuring multicultural choirs, followed by a multicultural lunch shared together.
We are delighted that President, Rev Charissa Suli, and Moderator, Rev Salesi Faupula, will be present for many of the activities, with Rev Suli preaching at the Sunday service.
You are most welcome to attend any or all the events across the weekend.
We encourage you to mark the dates in your diary and join us as we celebrate 150 years of worship, witness, and community at Electra Street.
Warm regards
Rev Peter Beale
