SATURDAY, DECEMBER 12 | 11:00 AM – 2:00 PMJoin us for a fun day of making fleece tie blankets for Project Linus! This event will primarily focus on simple, no-sew fleece blankets, but you’re welcome to bring any new handmade blankets you’d like to donate. Sewers are also welcome! We’ll have our chapter coordinator there so we can sew on the official Project Linus tags, and sewing machines are appreciated if you’d like to help in that way.
What to bring:
NEW pre-cut fleece (2 pieces per blanket, minimum 1.5 yards each)
One solid coordinating piece for the bottom + for the top one fun matching printed piece is typical
Scissors (we’ll label them so they make it back to you)
A snack to share for the potluck if you’d like
A friend or two!
Please use only “no pill” fleece (avoid super soft plush fleece, as it sheds too much). Fleece can be found at Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, online with a quick google search etc., and kits are often available.
This is a potluck-style event. Food is allowed only at designated tables. Keep blanket-making areas food-free, even if you're not making a blanket at that moment, those tables are NOT to have food or open drinks at them at any times. Wash hands after eating before going back to the blanket tables.
Important notes:
Children are welcome but must be 100% supervised at all times.
No running or eating at blanket tables (for adults or kids).
By attending, you assume responsibility for yourself and any minors in your care. Safety is important - scissors and active crafting will be in use.
Project Linus is a national nonprofit with a local chapter serving Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and Waterloo. All blankets stay local and are donated to children in need through hospitals, shelters, foster organizations, and organizations like Four Oaks, University of Iowa Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, Covenant, and Waterloo-area facilities.
If you can’t attend but would like to contribute, you can drop off completed blankets, fleece donations, or monetary donation at my home on the southwest side of Cedar Rapids. Please DO NOT bring donations to the church.
