The 13th Annual Worst Day of the Year RideWill there be snow? Maybe.
Ice? Probably.
Rain? Wouldn’t rule it out.
-20°? Totally possible.
45° and suspiciously pleasant? Also possible. El Nino.
Will the roads and trails be plowed? Your guess is as good as ours.
What we do know: it might be terrible, it might be glorious, and it will almost certainly be the most fun you've ever had making questionable winter cycling decisions.
It’s the 13th Annual Worst Day of the Year Ride!
The days are short, the daylight is scarce, and the holidays are in full swing. So naturally, the answer is to get on our bikes, ride around looking at holiday lights, and reward ourselves with food and drinks.
The ride will be roughly 6–10 miles, depending on whatever Wisconsin decides to throw at us. We may hit Konkopot Creek gravel and/or city streets. Fat bikes and mountain bikes are your safest bets for unpredictable conditions, although every year someone shows up on a CX bike and somehow lives to tell the tale. If there’s no snow, congratulations - basically anything goes. Bring a roadie if you’re feeling optimistic.
We’ll make a few holiday light stops, head to Tanners for food and drinks, and then make our way back to the shop. Pace will be conversational - around 10–12 mph - although the weather may have other plans. Route will be posted after we survey the local holiday lights. Pro tip: park at Tanners, ride down to the shop so you don't have to ride back on a full tummy in cold weather.
This one may be a little much for younger kiddos, especially since there will be some adult beverage stops. You know your people. 😉
Helmets + front and rear lights are required.
And remember: the next morning, you’ll wake up to a little more daylight. So technically, this ride is self-care.
