In this fun and welcoming beginner course, you'll learn the foundations of Egyptian belly dance, including graceful arms, hip work, posture, shimmies, traveling steps, and simple combinations while dancing to beautiful music from Egypt.
Along the way, you'll explore the musicality, emotion, and cultural traditions that make Egyptian Raks Sharki one of the world's most celebrated dance forms.
No dance experience is necessary! Whether you're looking for a creative outlet, gentle exercise, increased confidence, or a welcoming community, this is a wonderful place to begin.
ABOUT THE STARBELLY 101 PROGRAM
This is one of three required 101-level foundation courses in the Starbelly School of Dance curriculum. Together, the three 101 courses introduce students to the essential movements, rhythms, and styles of belly dance and prepare students for the 200-level courses.
Students should complete all three 101 courses before advancing to the next level.
