About this Event
Join us at Orange Regional Museum for the opening of our new exhibitions Mawambul and Painted in Light as we celebrate 10 years since we opened our doors.
This community celebration is free to attend and open to all. We'll have tasty refreshments from local providers, live music from Javier & the Wave, and a performance from Bletchington Public School's Boys First Nations dance group.
Proceedings will be MC'd by ABC Central West Breakfast's Alex James and feature remarks from Brett Adlington (CEO Museums & Galleries NSW) and Dr Mary-Liz Andrews (Orange Regional Museum Manager), before being officially opened by Mayor Tony Mileto.
About Mawambul
Opens to the public from 20 November 2026
Mawambul, meaning 'together in Wiradjuri language, is Orange Regional Museum's new long-term local history exhibition.
Created with community, Mawambul brings together the people, places and experiences that have shaped our region. Featuring original objects, dynamic interactives, and a central film experience exploring Wiradjuri Country and culture, the exhibition reveals connections throughout our regional communities and across generations.
There is no single history of our region. Mawambul invites visitors to discover its many layers and explore how the past continues to shape our lives today.
This exhibition has been made possible through the generous support of Orange City Council, Create NSW and Newmont Cadia.
About Painted in Light
Open to the public from 20 November 2026 - 14 June 2027
Painted in Light explores the world of Estonian-born photographer Evan Antoni Lumme. Working across the Central West from studios at Orange, Lyndhurst and Burnt Yards between 1895 and 1935, Lumme built a family and farm within a small regional community, while documenting the people, places, working life, townships and events of the region.
His images - more than 3,000 captured in crisp detail on glass plate and preserved in family albums - are both beautiful and historically significant. This must-see exhibition features large-scale prints, playful installations, and hands-on activities for the young and young-at-heart.
