Our speaker is a Community Garden Manager and will use his knowledge to help you start a backyard garden beginning with choosing the right spot and creating beds for easy access. He will offer information on determining the soil’s pH and nutrient levels, and amending it with compost to improve structure, fertility, moisture retention and W**d suppression. Selecting plants that will thrive in your area, watering, and mulching regularly will be covered. Just as important is evaluating what worked well so that with proper planning, soil prep, and ongoing care, your backyard garden can become a productive, sustainable space that brings fresh food, beauty, and joy.
