About this Event
The 2024 National Football League concludes with Dessie Farrell’s Dublin facing Mickey Harte’s Derry in the Division One final.
The Ulster champions bid to get the better of the All-Ireland champions in the Division One decider at Croke Park
In what is fast becoming one of Gaelic Football’s most intriguing rivalries, Derry and Dublin go head-to-head for the Division One title at Croke Park this afternoon.
The match is a repeat of last season’s Division Two final, which was won by Dublin and both teams have continued their strong League form from last year into the 2024 campaign.
One year ago, Dublin and Derry met in the Division Two Football final and plenty have changed in them 12 months.
Mickey Harte is now in charge of the Ulster Champions while Dublin timed their run perfectly last year to become All-Ireland Champions.
It has been an intriguing league campaign for both, Derry were the model of consistency throughout, winning six of their seven league matches.
Their only loss was to Dublin at home but the Ulster outfit rested a number of key players for the occasion, including Conor Glass.
Dublin showed worrying signs early on, squandering a commanding position against Monaghan to lose their league opener while also putting in a sloppy performance away to Mayo.
Fast forward five games and they have been electric, putting up hammerings against Kerry and Tyrone and impressing away to Derry.
And both sides will want to get their hands on some early-season silverware with the Championship just around the corner.
Indeed, Derry’s one and only defeat under new manager Mickey Harte came at the hands of Dublin in Round Five.
Harte opted not to field his strongest team and Dessie Farrell’s side left Celtic Park with a 1-16 to 1-11 victory.
However, it was the manner of Dublin’s incredible 21-point rout of Tyrone last Sunday in Croke Park that left everybody wondering if Derry have what it takes to stop the All-Ireland champions?
The ease at which Dublin scored 5-18 against his native county will have given Harte plenty of food for thought throughout the week.
Yet, Derry topped the Division One standing after seven rounds with six wins from their seven games and the back-to-back Ulster champions will be keen to prove they are serious contenders for All-Ireland glory later this summer.
It has been an impressive start to 2024 for both sides, Derry's sole loss coming to Dublin while Dessie Farrell's side shook off some early season rust to go on a five-game winning streak.
