For anyone unfamiliar with the concept of a Game Jam, it is an event dedicated to the creation of games. Usually this is set around a specific challenge, and in this case the challenge is to create imaginative and engaging games that encourage people to become familiar or learn about digital preservation concepts. We will be running a day-long in-person workshop where participants will form teams to create a game, either digital or analogue (such as a board game or a card game).
Never made a game before? Don't worry- we will bring templates, ideas and tutorials on different tools to get you started! At the end of the day all the teams will showcase their creations.
Digital Preservation themed games can be important tools for advocacy and encourage learning. The digital preservation field is often misunderstood but relevant to so many people and can also be an intimidating field to join. Making and playing games is a fun way to get started.
This event is a collaboration between the Archives and Records Association Section for Archives and Technology and the University College London Information Studies Department.
