Join us for a very special trip as we head to the Peak District to climb the ‘Dragon’s Back’ and enjoy some much-deserved Bakewell puddings! 🥧
Starting on Saturday, we’ll hike up Chrome Hill – one of the most photographed hills in all of the Peak District. Nicknamed the ‘Dragon’s Back’, Chrome Hill is known for its dramatic ridges, which resemble the ‘plates’ along the spine of a Stegosaurus dinosaur. We’ll enjoy fantastic views from this breath-taking hill, formed originally from limestone reef knolls and former coral reefs from over 340 million years ago.
After a well-deserved night’s rest, we’ll then set off on Sunday morning to hike along the Roaches, which feature impressive gritstone edges and craggy rocks loved by both hikers and climbers alike. We’ll stop by Lud’s Church, a mysterious chasm rumoured to have been a secret place of worship during the early 15th century and the backdrop of ancient medieval poems.
We’ll then have lunch in the picturesque village of Bakewell, home to the famous Bakewell Tart and Bakewell Pudding! These traditional British desserts are made by hand, using the original recipes from the 1800s. After lunch, we'll head off again for a relaxing walk through the stunning limestone gorge of Dovedale along the River Dove. We'll admire soaring limestone pinnacles, secret caves and arches carved over the millennia and cross the river by its famous stepping stones.

Saturday:
06:45 meet outside Hotel Novotel London West, 1 Shortlands, W6 8DR (a five-minute walk from Hammersmith Station); 07:00 sharp departure; 11:30-17:15 The Dragon’s Back Ridge Walk (difficulty: Difficult, distance: 13km, ascent: 600m); 18:00 check-in at Premier Inn Newcastle-Under-Lyme Hotel, dinner and free time;
Sunday:
07:00 breakfast; 08:00 departure; 08:45-12:30 The Roaches and Lud’s Church hike from Tittesworth Reservoir (difficulty: Moderate, distance: 10km, ascent: 380m); 13:00-14:45 lunch in Bakewell village; 15:15-17:00 Dovedale Valley walk (difficulty: Easy, distance: 5km, ascent: 150m); 17:00 departure; 21:00 London, Hammersmith.
TRANSPORT
As on most of our trips, we'll travel in a comfortable 16-seater minibus.
LUGGAGE
You can bring two small bags with you: one cabin size personal item bag (up to 10kg) and one smaller hiking backpack to fit under the seat. During the hike, you can leave your luggage in the minibus.
