About this Event
Join us at our spring Zoöpcamp where J D Swann will be help us tune into the afterdark sounds of the flittermouse; an old-fashioned term for a bat.
We will begin with a shared meal, gathering around the fire camp to cook, eat, and spend time together outdoors—marshmallows included.
As daylight softens, the site begins to shift. Diurnal activity recedes, and other rhythms come forward. We will stay with this transition into dusk, allowing time to settle, listen, and notice the changing soundscape of the place.
As night approaches, the evening moves into a bat listening session. Using bat recorders, we will tune into ultrasonic frequencies, making audible the otherwise hidden movements and voices of bats. Listening together, we will attend to their presence across the site, encountering TUMP 39 through a different sensory register.

About
Tump39 is a long-term project initiated by Three Rivers that is working with people living in North Thamesmead to re-imagine a disused and re-wilded Victorian munitions magazine hidden in their housing estate as a new community space for arts, ecology and play!
Three Rivers is a community-led arts and ecology organisation exploring culture, class and climate in the London Borough of Bexley, and a member of Arts Council England's Creative People and Places programme.
J D Swann is an ornithological investigator often working with communities in Bexley and Greenwich, London. J D organised walks and events with Estuary Festival, Stephen Turner’s Exbury Egg, Bow Arts, Three Rivers, InspiralLondon, Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park and RSPB Rainham, Essex, with Kinetika. He has live-streamed with InspiralSE2 (Calum F Kerr & Miyuki Kasahara) in various locations in South-East London and the Isle of Portland, Dorset.
SoundCamp (2013–) are an arts cooperative based at Stave Hill Ecological Park in Rotherhithe and Work Shop 1 in Loughborough Junction, with members in Glasgow, Berlin, Yorkshire, Crete and The Netherlands. We are interested in diy infrastructures that can move live sounds between places and situations, and give attention to less heard human and non-human communities. Our work appears as live transmissions, workshops, sound devices and events.
