About this Event
Zine Holiday with Jussara Nazare
Join us for a creative long weekend of zine-making with Gloucester-based multimedia artist Jussara Nazare. From Friday to Sunday, this workshop will immerse you in the world of self-published magazines and DIY culture, as we reseach, create and publish our own zines!
For zinesters old and new, zining is a fantastic way to find and explore your creative voice. Expect awelcoming, silly vibes and healthy snacks to get creative juices can flowwwwing. We’ll provide an array of art materials, from paints and posca pens to beautiful colored paper, two instant-print cameras, a printer-scanner, glue, and scissors.
We’ll start Friday morning by getting to know each other, sharing the mad history of zine-making, and making an intro zine. In the afternoon, we’ll head out into London to gather inspiration and source materials.
On Saturday, we’ll brainstorm ideas for each participant’s main zine, then dive into creating. Along with abundant art supplies, we’ll have a scanner-printer to make copies and create glitch art. You’re welcome to bring your own supplies, too! We’ll also cover design techniques, focusing especially on cover design.
Sunday will be all about finishing touches. We’ll learn basic bookbinding techniques, and after lunch, use a photocopier as a zine press to create bound copies. We’ll end the day with a zine party, where everyone can showcase their creations and get advice on resources, forming collectives, or finding markets to share and sell their zines.
This weekend offers a space for both beginners and experienced zinesters to immerse themselves in a creative flow. Together, we’ll explore new or familiar practices, connect with the city, and build community at a relaxing pace. We can’t wait to share the magic of zine-making with you all! <3

Meet Jussara
I am a multidisciplinary Gloucester based artist with a focus on afro-queer surrealist art & performance. My work is full of colour, patterns and life as it blooms in many forms. From handmade jewellery, Zines and print, up-cycled fashion or handcrafted paintings on canvas wood, murals and more. Check out some of the places I’ve recently been featured:
BBC
Vogue
Museum of Gloucester
My current projects include Muses of Glos, a Gloucester based QPOC performance collective; Knob Ross, a satirical Bob Ross themed Burlesque highlighting the injustice of Bob Ross Inc. and the zine series, Adventures of Ducky, a first person (duck) guide to raves, festivals, expression and safe partying!
I can't wait to make this workshop fun and expressive for everyone, no matter their areas of interest, and seeing what people create!
Produced by Skills Holiday
We believe that the challenges of the 21st century require creativity and collaboration to solve, and that how we spend our holiday time matters in moving towards this goal.
So we’re experimenting with a new kind of holiday. Holidays built around creativity, that connect people to their local communities and build new creative skills.
Our long weekend workshops also provide new sources of income to artists, creators and passion people, making them more resilient, and creating new possibilities for themselves and their practises.
We want to be part of the shift from a culture of consumption to a culture of creativity and transformation.. We hope you might join us!
