A two-part art writing workshop led by poet Annemarie Ní Churreáin in response to Lucy Stein’s exhibition 'Lunula' at TBG+S
About this Event

Over two gallery-based sessions, participants will discuss and experiment with writing in response to the current gallery exhibition Lunula. This session will be led by the poet Annemarie Ní Churreáin. Participants will explore the art and craft of writing poetry in a workshop that draws from Irish traditions of mythology, magic and the moon in folklore. These intimate workshops will offer an informal inspiring environment set in the gallery surrounded by the work of artist Lucy Stein.

Young Art Writers is designed for anyone age 18–25 with an interest in art and writing. The workshops are led by invited writers with diverse writing practices. This is an exciting opportunity to work with an established creative writer to explore different aspects of writing in relation to contemporary visual art. The workshops adopt a shared learning and explorative approach as opposed to taught or critique-based sessions.

Spaces are limited and kept to a small group and so we ask that participants are fully committed to attending both sessions. No experience is necessary and all levels of writing ability are welcome.

Annemarie Ní Churreáin is a poet from the Donegal Gaeltacht, Ireland. Her poetry practice, often concerned with cultures of silence and care in Ireland, is deeply rooted by her interests in place, native language, folklore and transformation. Her books include Hymn to All the Restless Girls (Gallery Press, 2025), The Poison Glen (Gallery Press, 2021), Town (The Salvage Press, 2018) and Bloodroot (Doire Press, 2017). She is a recipient of the Irish Arts Council’s Next Generation Artist Award and a co-recipient of The Markievicz Award. She is the Poetry Editor at The Stinging Fly Magazine. Annemarie Ní Churreáin was our 2019 Commissioned Writer, producing a series of written responses to the exhibitions at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios.

Event location information: This event will take place in the gallery where the exhibition is installed, out of hours. Seating will be informal for a small group.
