Winner of the 2026 Deutscher Jazzpreis, yonglee & the DOLTANG is a group of improvisational musicians with rocker DNA, recognized in Korea and beyond for its bold, genre-blurring sound. Led by pianist and composer Yonglee, the ensemble satirically probes the desires and absurdities of modern life, fusing structural elegance with emotionally charged spontaneity while balancing complexity and directness.
Blending rock, pop, contemporary jazz, free improvisation, and electronic experimentation, the band creates immersive sonic landscapes driven by layered rhythms and raw intensity. Formed in Seoul by five musicians once scattered across the globe, they channel the tension between artistic aspiration and modern labor into fiercely original work, including their debut album Invisible Worker, a powerful reflection on creativity, identity, and survival in today’s world.
