Trauma-Informed Yoga @ the PFLS
About this Event

Focusing on the relationship between mood management and the mind-body connection, sessions offer a combination of breathing, movement, postures, mindfulness and music.

Participants will explore the physical, mental and emotional benefits of a yoga practice.

Improving the mental, psychological and cognitive well-being in both adults and adolescents, yoga can be a positive addition to an effective treatment plan for various conditions and disorders, such as stress, anxiety, depression, trauma and addiction. Teachings are trauma-informed and adaptable for all levels. This class is open to everyone.

There will be no yoga class on January 1st and February 26th, 2026

  • Mats and props are provided, you are welcome to bring your own.
  • This class is hosted in a public space at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. All patients, families, and community members are welcome.
  • There is a large, floor to ceiling digital artwork in the space that some people with sensory sensitivies find challenging. The overhead lights are kept off which increases the saturation of the digital colours in the artwork.
  • There are large floor to ceiling windows that look onto Queen street. The blinds are kept closed for yoga sessions.
  • There are chairs available for people who need to practice yoga seated.
  • Please contact [email protected] with any additional accessibility requests or questions.

Ghazal Bina first stepped onto a yoga mat in an Iyengar studio in her early 20s in her hometown of Tehran, while she was a philosophy student.

Yoga has since become a significant part of her life and she traveled to India, Nepal, Germany, Canada and Cambodia to deepen her knowledge and practice. She has obtained 7 certificates in the past 16 years of teaching and practicing. Her certificates include hatha yoga, yoga therapy, mindfulness meditation, vipassana meditation, vinyasa yoga, ashtanga yoga, mat pilates and children's yoga.

In her classes, she challenges the practitioners physically, mentally & spiritually, guiding them to find their inner light and guru through asanas, pranayama and stillness. She is open to modify the poses and exercises based on practitioner's needs and limitations. Her classes welcome all levels, ages, genders and body types as she firmly believes that yoga is for everyone.
