Dealing with too many heated APDA-exclusive situationships and too few fire cases? We got you…the Yale Debate Association is pleased to invite you to our Heated Rivalry themed MOTIONS tournament from April 3rd–4th, 2026! The tournament will consist of five inrounds, before breaking to outrounds (exact breaks pending entry numbers; we expect a varsity octos and novice semis). All rounds will be motions, written by our amazing team of CAs.
We will be making every effort to keep the tournament on schedule. Please help us in that endeavor by making travel plans which ensure you will arrive at GA (Davies Auditorium) no later than 3:30 pm.
Registration is due by 11:59 PM on Sunday, March 29th, though we strongly encourage teams to register earlier: we have a strict team cap due to room availability, but being early also makes you more likely to get crash housing, less likely to get your teams broken up if we’re low on judges, etc. This is a closed tournament. Only debaters eligible to compete on APDA or who are currently enrolled in a four-year college may register.

Reg fees are $160 per team. Please reach out to [email protected] if you need a reg break (available on a case-by-case basis). Financial aid requests must be made by 11:59 PM on Sunday, March 15th (two weeks before the Reg deadline). Your teams will not be allowed to compete unless we have received payment or proof of payment being sent; additionally, if your school owes money to the YDA from any previous tournament (last year’s Yale APDA or this year’s Yale IV), those fees must be paid prior to the start of the tournament. The last minute drop fee is $50 per team within 48 hours of the tournament and $100 per team within 24 hours of the tournament. We don’t guarantee accepting late registration, but if you do reg late, we will charge you an additional $50 per team.

Judge obligations are (n–1)/2 rounded up and the missing judge fee is $100 per missing judge or $20 per missing round (a complete judge is available for all prelim rounds). If we are short on judges, we will break up teams starting with schools that have the highest team to judge ratio. We would rather have your judges than your missing judge fees so please bring judges! All judges must have debated or judged in at least three prior tournaments and MUST upload their paradigms to count toward their team’s obligation. Crash Housing: We will be providing crash housing, but space is extremely limited! If you’re looking at hotels but are concerned about prices for hotels in New Haven, we encourage you to look at hotels in Orange, Hamden, or Milford; hotels in these cities are generally much cheaper and are not a long drive from Yale. Crash housing will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve and financial need basis.
