Robin Benger is an award-winning journalist and film-maker. Born in the UK, he grew up in South Africa and has also lived in Singapore, Rhodesia, and Canada. Distinguishing himself in cricket at university, he was arrested several times for anti-Apartheid activism and eventually expelled from South Africa, he sailed across the Atlantic in a 47-foot schooner and worked as a shark fisherman in Oaxaca, and a nickel-smelter worker in Sudbury.
At 24 he took his first job as a journalist with the Georgian Bay Beacon in MacTier, Ontario. The following year he took his first job at the CBC, where he has produced over one hundred documentaries in 72 countries over 35 years. Robin is also the author of several books, including “A Canadian in God’s Country” (2017). “The Adventures of Rategan Volume One” (2023) strikes a complex balance between fiction and narration of personal experience. He has also published many articles. He is married to actor/writer/coach Nicky Guadagni. The couple have three children: Griffin, Tess and Charlie.
