About This Workshop: As writers, it is all too common to hear (and give) feedback on writing that lacks any sort of meaning. We've all heard the lines "That was great" or "I really liked your poem" and for many artists, hearing this kind of feedback can be frustrating. Equally difficult is wanting to say something nuanced about a poem and not having the words to do so. In 'Beyond "It's Good" - Giving Genuine Feedback on Writing', you will learn the basics poetic analysis, to help you engage more deeply with the written word, with the goal of giving meaningful, helpful feedback to fellow poets. This workshop explores how poetic analysis, using a basic understanding of literary devices, can help poets engage more deeply with a piece and uplift other writers through critical, but constructive feedback. It also includes discussion on the purpose and ethics of giving feedback on writing, with the understanding that poetry is a deeply personal and sensitive pursuit. This workshop supports womxn writers by providing tools to speak confidently and share their thoughts on writing, which are too often ignored or dismissed as less valuable. It also gives writers the basics to support each other through analysis and criticism, bypassing educational institutions that are too-often biased against female voices.

About the Phenomenal Womxn Festival: The Phenomenal Womxn Poetry Festival is a bold, empowering 3-day celebration of womxn and femme voices taking up space in Las Vegas. Featuring workshops, powerful panels, curated open mics, and the first-ever all-womxn regional poetry slam to hit the city. Poets across genres — page, stage, experimental, and everything in between — will gather in the heart of the Arts District, activating beloved local spaces like Third Street, Taverna Costera, Suite 150, Analog Dope, and That Chapel. We’ll close the weekend with a special headlining performance from powerhouse poet Yesika Salgado, followed by an unforgettable final-stage slam where one poet will claim $3,000 and the title of 2026 Phenomenal Womxn Champion.
