It’s been almost a decade since The Women’s Equality Party began.

In 2015, Sandi Toksvig and Catherine Mayer set us on a path to do politics differently. Since 2019, Mandu Reid has steered us on that course, making change and breaking barriers.

We have achieved extraordinary victories and we have faced equally big challenges, not in the least building a vibrant, changemaking movement on a shoestring budget – a challenge that gets harder year on year.

We want to be honest with ourselves and with you. The truth is, despite the phenomenal efforts of our team, tireless activists and brilliant members we can no longer see a way to make this work. Everybody is struggling, particularly women. Populism has gained ground and people are more and more polarised. We cannot, with the resources we have, and the political landscape as it is, deliver the change we were founded to make.

That’s why the Women’s Equality Executive Committee has taken the decision to call a Special Conference, where members will decide if now is the right moment to close the party.

The Special Conference will take place on Sunday 17th November online for members only.

This is an extremely important decision. And is one only our members can make.

So, we are inviting all of our members, the lifeblood of our party, to come together, to talk to each other and vote on what the future holds for us.

Join us, and come together on 17th November 2024. WE will discuss this proposal and vote and decide our future.
