Naarm/Melbourne songwriter, Winter McQuinn explores country and folk, imbued by psychedelia with a contemporary edge.
UK’s Shindig Magazine best-described McQuinn’s music as “pollinated with dashes of 21st Century environmentalism and political awareness.” His music ripples with free-ness similar to revered 1960s/70s artists such as Nick Drake and Syd Barrett, and contemporary artists such as Kate Bollinger, Tex Crick and Alex Izenberg. McQuinn’s 2021 debut album ‘A Rabble Of Bees’ marked the beginning of his solo wanderings into psychedelic outsider pop. His 2024 sophomore album ‘Move To The Trees’ (featured in Rolling Stone AU and KEXP’s ‘Best Of’ lists for 2024), saw McQuinn honing his craft with a series of anthems for the future, settled in post-psych folk and 70s soft rock energy.
The end of 2024 saw McQuinn release a co-written EP ‘Recently I’ve Been Missing The Colour Green’ with Acacia Pip (Pinch Points) which was described as “collection of 6 pastoral, slacker folk gems” by Shindig Magazine (UK), and lead to tours in Australia, Europe and the UK. McQuinn has also begun releasing music with a new duo project Beefheart and McQuinn with UK Artist Moby Beefheart (aka William Murray from outfit FUR).
Most recently, following stellar singles “Walkin’ Through That Door”,“Always Looking” and “Growing Old”— McQuinn shared his third and most ambitious album yet, Where Are We Now?, out now via Third Eye Stimuli Records (AU) and Born Losers Records (North America). The album has since received acclaim in Rolling Stone, Stereogum, 3RRR and many others, also reaching #16 on the AIR Charts and added to rotation on Double J and saw McQuinn support notable artists including Sylvie (US), Kacy & Clayton (CAN), Sonny & The Sunsets (US), Leah Senior, Bures Band, Nice Biscuit, Joe Ghatt (NZ). This album was described as his “most sophisticated record yet” and features collaborations with Dylan Young (Way Dynamic), Hot Apple Band, Feign Jima and many more.

Pys Melyn are Ceiri, Sion, Owain, Owain and Jac from Pen Llŷn, North Wales. Gigging since 2014, the first Pys Melyn singles were released in 2018, with Ski-Whiff records established the following year to release “Bywyd Llonydd”, the band’s first album in 2021. This first album drew on a variety of global influences and was followed by ‘Bolmynydd’ in August 2023, which draws on a more traditional range of 60’s/70’s influences. Both were nominated for the Welsh Music Prize. After releasing ‘Bolmynydd’, they toured around the UK, playing venues like the Garage in London and Tough Trade Bristol. In 2024 they released their third record, Fel Efeilliaid (Like Twins), recorded a BBC6Music session for Riley and Coe, supported Gruff Rhys on his Sadness Sets Me tour and played a headline tour of the UK. In 2025, the band played various tours and festival slots including a packed set at Greenman and toured Japan and Korea.
