Take wing and join us at Walthamstow Wetlands for a fantastic, feathery evening drawing owls from life. It'll be a hoot!
About this Event

Did you know that we have owls here in London? Owl sightings are up, and not just in the leafy suburbs. To learn more about our new hooting neighbours, we'll be sketching some UK species of owl and learning about the best spots in and around the capital to see them in the wild.

Our owls will be on the smaller end of the spectrum, but what they lack in size they more than make up for in character! We'll be meeting the beautiful, silent-flying barn owl, the charismatic little owl and the distinctively tufty long-eared owl*.
The class will be led by wildlife artist Jennie Webber. All your materials will be provided – including paper, drawing boards and plenty of colours – and Jennie will be on hand with plenty of creative advice from her 11 years teaching the process of drawing animals from life. The most important thing for you to know is that there is no pressure at these classes- we believe that once we stop worrying about the outcome, drawing can be enjoyable for everyone. All abilities are welcome, and all artistic styles are celebrated.
While we sketch, expert falconer and life-long bird lover Paul will teach us all about each species, and will be very happy to answer any questions you have.
Wild Life Drawing are a small team who are dedicated to animal welfare and conservation. They only ever work with the finest animal handlers, who treat their animals with care and respect, and healthy animals who are happy around humans. The falconer who is bringing along the owls is an expert in their care, and regularly works alongside the RSPCA to rescue and rehabilitate wild raptors.

*Owl species may change as we ensure to bring only healthy and happy birds to the drawing class.
