Susie Orbach and Lisa Appignanesi look back on the history of Women and Psychoanalysis, the impetus of second-wave feminism, and tease out some of the questions, achievements and issues that have been fore-fronted in the ever shifting decades since.

Speakers:
Lisa Appignanesi OBE is the author of many books, including Everyday Madness, Mad, Bad, and Sad, and Freud’s Women (with John Forrester), a spring board for the Women and Freud Exhibition. A former Chair of the Freud Museum and the Royal Society of Literature, she was President of English PEN and is on the Executive Board of the Freud Museum Vienna.
Susie Orbach is a psychoanalyst and writer. She co-founded The Women’s Therapy Centre in 1976 and is the author of many books including Fat is a Feminist Issue, Hunger Strike, On Eating, The Impossibility of Sex, Bodies, and In Therapy. She was a visiting Professor at LSE for 10 years, visiting scholar at The New School and Hertford College Oxford. She was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, is the recipient of The British Psychoanalytic Council’s Lifetime Achievement award and has several Honorary Doctorates. She has been a Trustee and is an Honorary Fellow of the Freud Museum. She is a consultant psychotherapist with The Balint Consultancy.
