About this Event
The Margaret Thatcher Centre is delighted to welcome the former Secretary of State for Social Security, former Deputy Leader of the Conservative Party and former President of the Board of Trade, the Rt. Hon. The Lord Lilley PC, to deliver the Ninth Margaret Thatcher Lecture at the Carlton Club on Monday, 16 December 2024.
There was perhaps no truer Thatcherite in the Cabinets of Margaret Thatcher and John Major than Peter Lilley. As Secretary of State for Social Security, he ensured that Britons had more saved in private pensions than in the rest of Europe combined - a legacy that was unfortunately soon destroyed by Gordon Brown. In opposition, he memorably coined the phrase "stealth taxes" in attacking Brown's record as Chancellor. The Margaret Thatcher Centre is delighted to give Lord Lilley the opportunity to deliver a keynote address in the Iron Lady's memory as the latest of its exciting series of events.
A report on the existing activities and updated future plans of the Margaret Thatcher Centre will be shared, and all attendees will receive a commemorate brochure of the evening.
