ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Children’s picture books can be rich in meaning and spiritual wisdom. That, when coupled with captivating illustrations, makes them a perfect offering for your next intergenerational or Sunday classroom gathering. This workshop will cover selecting the best of what's out there and pairing these books with wondering questions, scripture, and creative response, for turn-key content that will delight all ages.
The Wednesday Workshops, presented by Forma and the Lifelong Learning team at Virginia Theological Seminary, are engaging, hourlong sessions designed to equip ministry leaders with practical tools and techniques for effective ministry. These workshops provide hands-on learning opportunities across a variety of topics, fostering growth and innovation in ministry contexts. Whether you're seeking fresh ideas, actionable strategies, or a chance to connect with others in ministry, the Wednesday Workshops offer a dynamic space for learning and collaboration. Perfect for clergy, lay leaders, and anyone passionate about strengthening their ministry, these sessions are a valuable resource for transformative ministry in today’s church. These workshops are free for Forma members.

Valerie Reinke serves as Canon Missioner for Faith Formation for the Diocese of Olympia, the Episcopal Church in Western Washington. There she coordinates events, resources, and communications that support life-long spiritual growth. She is the author of a free, on-line curriculum called “Sunday Storytellers,” that uses children’s books as a jumping off point for exploring personal values and scripture. Prior to her work at the Diocese, she served as a formation staff member at Grace Episcopal Church, Bainbridge Island (WA) and, before that, at St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church in Keller, TX. She currently lives on Bainbridge Island, just a ferry’s ride away from Seattle, with her husband, Fred, and lovable labrador, Nyx.
