“It clicked for me one day that the album was going to be about hornets,” says Sputnik, the songwriter behind Weatherday. Hornet Disaster, the follow-up to 2019’s Come in and successor to Weatherglow, is their most expansive work yet. Built from an initial burst of over 70 songs, the album opens with a caustic title track and channels Weatherday’s signature urgency while pushing into new territory. Lead single “Angel” delivers a snappy emo rush, contrasted by the downtempo, Knife-inspired “Heartbeats.”
Threaded with hornet imagery across nineteen restless tracks, Hornet Disaster moves through unexpected experiments — from Swedish lyrics to folktronica textures — while doubling down on the maximalist chaos of Come in. Where Weatherday’s debut captured an artist searching for a voice, this record embraces the freedom and joy of having found it.
