We Belong Manchester April Gathering: The Heart of the Archives

This month, we're teaming up with the AIU Race Centre Archives and the 8% Club for an engaging session that will dive deep into the heart of archives and their significance. Building upon the thought-provoking discussions from the previous session, we'll tackle big questions like "What is an archive?" and "What is the goal of archives?" We'll delve into the maintenance of collections and materials over time, untangling the complex web of preserving and making things accessible.
It will be a session focused on creativity and we will look through poetry and oral transcripts, exploring the essence of archives and imagining what our very own archives could look like. It's an opportunity to shape the narrative of history and leave a mark on the archives in the city, as in June we will begin making our own.
Additionally, at this gathering, we'll also be chatting about the upcoming "We Belong" parliamentary event. The event will be a cool opportunity for everyone to speak up and have a direct chat with MPs about issues affecting young migrants. So, we'll dedicate time to discussing this event and strategising how best to participate and make an impact. If you've got thoughts or ideas to share, this is the perfect chance to get involved and make a difference ahead of the event!

About We Belong

We Belong is the first UK-wide charity to be set up and run entirely by and for young migrants. We support young people to set the agenda for social change and ensure that young migrants can be treated equally and fairly.

Each month, we host monthly in-person gatherings inviting young people to gather and build friendships and a lasting community. We believe in the power of storytelling so you will hear someone share their experience, a reminder of why we campaign for change.
