The Primal Pillars
- Skill Acquisition: Learn the mechanics of movements from multiple modalities (yoga, calistenics, and animal flow)
Why "Primal" Beats the Boutique
- Unlimited Range: We use the natural terrain of Wash Park for lateral movements and sprints that a 4x6 yoga mat can’t contain.
- Cognitive Fitness: You’ll be challenged to think about how you move, making the 45 minutes fly by.
- Fresh Air Advantage: There is no substitute for training in the morning dew and natural light to regulate your circadian rhythm.
- Explosive Power: Short, controlled bursts of plyometrics to wake up your central nervous system.
- Animal Flow: Rhythmic, ground-based sequences that open your hips, shoulders, and spine.
- The Finish: A signature, high-intensity interval finish near the water’s edge to spike your metabolism for the day.
🐾 What to Bring: Wash Park Primal
To get the most out of our skill-based bodyweight session, please come equipped with:
- The "Double Mat" Setup: Because Primal involves "Animal Flow" (moving on hands and feet), the grass can sometimes be uneven or damp. We recommend a high-grip yoga mat or bringing an old towel to place underneath your mat for extra cushion and stability.
- Cross-Training Shoes: While we do some mobility work barefoot, the "Primal Pillars" include explosive movements and sprints. Wear sneakers with good lateral support (running shoes or cross-trainers).
- Form-Fitting Layers: You’ll be moving through various planes—including inversions (downward dogs, crow poses, or bear crawls). Wear clothes that stay in place so you can focus on the movement, not your outfit.
- Grip Gloves (Optional): If you have sensitive hands, a pair of lightweight workout gloves can be helpful for ground-work on the grass, though most prefer the natural feel of the turf.
- A "Ready-to-Learn" Mindset: This is a skill-based class. Bring your focus—we’ll be breaking down mechanics that will challenge your brain as much as your body.
🌿 A Note on the Environment
- Dew Happens: Early morning at Wash Park means the grass is often wet. Don't worry—it’s part of the "Primal" experience! However, a quick wipe of your hands/feet with a small gym towel between sets will help you maintain your grip.
