Join us for a powerful evening of poetry and music featuring readings by actors Khalid Abdalla and Billy Howle, Palestinian poets Abdelfattah Abusrour, Zena Agha, and Layla Maghribi, and music by Saied Silbak.
Khalid Abdalla: Khalid Abdalla is a renowned actor, producer, writer and filmmaker, known most notably for his performances in The Crown as Dodi Fayed, Marc Forster’s The Kite Runner, and in the Paul Greengrass features United 93 and Green Zone.
Billy Howle: Billy Howle is an acclaimed British stage and film actor. He recently starred in Annemarie Jacir’s Palestine 36 and Netflix drama The Perfect Couple alongside Nicole Kidman. His previous films include On Chesil Beach, The Seagull, and Outlaw King.
Zena Agha: Zena Agha is a Palestinian-Iraqi writer, poet and multi-disciplinary artist from London. She is the author of Objects from April and May (Hajar Press, April 2022) and her short film, ‘The Place that is Ours‘, co-directed with Dorothy Allen-Pickard, premiered on Nowness in November 2021. She completed her PhD in colonial mapping and de-colonial counter-mapping in Palestine.
Abdelfattah Abusroar: Dr. Abdelfattah Abusrour is the founder and general director of Alrowwad Cultural and Arts Society, established in 1998 in Aida refugee camp, Bethlehem. A poet, playwright, actor, and director, Abusrour combines artistic innovation with academic rigor. His publications include Handala, Twenty-One Positions: A Cartographic Dream of the Middle East, and Bethlehem Beautiful Resistance Recipes, blending art, memory, and advocacy.
Saied Silbak: London-based Palestinian composer and oud virtuoso Saied Silbak is renowned for his evocative fusion of Arabic maqam, jazz, and Western classical traditions. From his roots in the Palestinian Galilee to international concert halls, Silbak’s music transcends borders, offering a sophisticated and soulful exploration of global soundscapes.
Layla Maghribi is a London-based British-Arab journalist, producer and podcaster whose father was a Nakba survivor from Haifa. A former correspondent with international media outlets including Reuters and CNN across the Arabic-speaking world, she now writes for various publications on social issues affecting Arab communities – from political activism and culture to migration and identity. Layla is the creator and host of Third Culture Therapy, a podcast exploring the intersection of cultural heritage and mental health. She has been writing poetry since childhood and is currently completing a master's in creative writing at Oxford University.
