About this Event

Youth Mental Health First Aid is for adults assisting youth.

Mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, psychosis and substance use disorders are shockingly common in the US. Unlike physical conditions, mental health challenges can be difficult to detect, so therefore, those in need of mental health services often don’t get them until it is too late. Tri-County Behavioral Healthcare is providing a FREE Virtual Youth Mental Health First Aid course to prepare our communities with the knowledge and skills to help individuals who are developing mental health problems or are experiencing a mental health crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aiders learn a 5-step action plan that guides them through the process of reaching out, offering appropriate support and connecting individuals with helpful resources when necessary. With the virtual format, participants will be required to do approximately 2 hours of self-paced, online pre-work prior to the virtual session on the class date.

FAQs

Can I attend the virtual session if I have not completed the pre-work?

No. In order to attend the virtual session, all pre-work must be done prior to the training date. You will not gain access to the virtual meeting link unless pre-work is completed. Pre-work consists of major learning topics such as stigma, person first language, mental health disorders, etc. You will receive an email with pre-work instructions from the MHFA Coordinator shortly after sign up.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

You must be 18 or older to attend.

I don't live in Texas. Can I still attend the training?
