About this Event
Join the National Hellenic Museum’s Online Book Club!
Facilitated by NHM's Resident Scholar Dr. Katherine Kelaidis, each month the NHM Online Book Club chooses a book that is either inspired by the Hellenic legacy or by a Greek American author (and sometimes both!). Then we gather to discuss the book on Zoom.
Book Club is free to join and meets on the third Thursday of each month at 7 PM CST
In May, we will be discussing by Colm Toibin.
More about House of Names:
Colm Tóibín’s House of Names reimagines the Greek myth of the House of Atreus, a family cursed by betrayal, revenge, and bloodshed. Through the voices of Clytemnestra, Orestes, and Electra, the novel retells the aftermath of Agamemnon’s sacrifice of Iphigenia and his M**der upon returning from Troy. Tóibín’s modern retelling focuses on psychological depth, exploring the characters' motives and the haunting consequences of vengeance. The novel vividly reinterprets the classical tragedy, infusing timeless themes of power, loyalty, and justice with contemporary resonance.
