Video Gaming Technical Art Skills Bootcamp – June/July 2026
Break into the games industry with our 8-week Technical Art Bootcamp. Train hands-on with professional studio tools, receive 1:1 support from industry experts, build a strong portfolio, and finish with real career momentum, including paid freelance opportunities.
What can I expect?
Fast-track your career in Technical Art over 8 weeks, building skills studios actively need across the games industry.
The bootcamp is based on real-world studio briefs, helping you solve practical technical art challenges and create portfolio-ready work that shows both technical and creative ability.
You will:
- Work with experienced technical artists
- Receive regular feedback and 1:1 mentoring
- Collaborate with a small cohort of peers
- Take part in career coaching and professional skills training
By the end, you’ll have industry-ready portfolio work, hands-on experience, and confidence to pursue studio roles or freelance work.
Who is this bootcamp for?
This fully funded programme is for adults aged 19+ with some experience in game development, whether through study, self-teaching, or personal projects.
Ideal for:
- Aspiring Technical Artists
- Game Artists or Animators
- Creative Coders or Technical Creatives
- Graduates or career changers entering the games industry
Applicants should:
- Be aged 19 or over
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Have some experience with game development tools or workflows
- Have a background in game art, programming, animation, or related fields
Places are limited and offered on a first come, first served basis.
Who will I be training with?
You’ll learn from working technical artists and industry professionals with real studio experience.
During the programme you will:
- Receive hands-on training from industry experts
- Learn current studio pipelines and best practices
- Hear from guest speakers and industry recruiters
You’ll also be supported by the Creative Process team, who will guide your training and help you progress into freelance or studio work.
Technical skills you will develop
- Engine Proficiency (Unreal Engine): Navigating the interface, building scenes, and using core tools
- Level Design & Composition: Creating playable spaces using layout, flow, and storytelling principles
- Technical Scripting & AI: Building interactive systems, basic enemy behaviours, and gameplay logic
- Environmental Art & Lighting: Designing landscapes and applying lighting to create mood and atmosphere
- Systems Implementation (UI/UX & Audio): Developing interfaces, player interactions, and integrating audio
- Optimisation & Problem Solving: Fixing bugs, improving performance, and managing build processes
Professional skills you will develop
- Creative Ideation & Concepting: Developing ideas into structured concepts and story outlines
- Analytical Problem Solving: Resolving technical and design issues through iteration and feedback
- Communication & Presentation: Presenting ideas and projects clearly to peers
- Reflective Practice & Evaluation: Using playtesting and feedback to refine and improve work
Eligibility and how we like to work:
Participant feedback is excellent but it is designed to challenge and stretch. To be accepted onto the programme you must be able to provide a West Sussex postcode based on where you live or where you work as well as:
• Aged 19 or above as of 31st August 2025
• Able to commit to the 8 days of the course
• Meet citizenship or visa requirements (to receive funding)
• Not have completed another Skills Bootcamp in the same financial year
• Motivated and ready to secure new work opportunities
• Good level of IT and digital literacy and be mac or PC proficient
• Minimum C1 level of English language proficiency
• Able to work in a team, on a collaborative basis, under pressure and to deadlines
• Good people skills and be mindful and respectful of how others learn (as well as an awareness that this may be different to how you learn)
• Respectful of people from different backgrounds, race, religion or gender orientation
• Prepared to take part in a way which contributes to the positive experience and enjoyment of the rest of the group
