About this Event
"Often when we gather in circle we use storytelling as a way of having a different kind of conversation. It helps us avoid dominant forms of communication that too often centre our opinions. Instead, storytelling invites us to centre our experience." Dr Nina Burrowes
Join Dr Nina Burrowes and Cynthia Ellis from The Consent Collective as they share some of the things they have learned from holding circle as part of their work in the gender based violence sector.
Inspired by a desire for community and a belief that a different type of healing can happen in group settings, circle has been part of their practice since lockdown. During that time they supported Rape Crisis teams across the country with a series of online circles providing a space for them to share, listen and feel connected during a time of deep disconnection.
Since then they have expanded their use of circle, using it to deepen their understanding of how survivors of sexual harm and relationship abuse heal from injustice, providing lunch time drop-in circles for people who want to make time in their busy day for moments of reflection and connection with others, and providing training for people who want to learn how to facilitate circles themselves.
During this session you'll find out the basics of what circle is and how it works, we'll talk about how circle can be used as part of a support and healing process, and how circle helps support our professional and personal development as we go about our work of being in service to others. If you've never experienced circle before or if you're curious about how you could offer group support to others come along to join us and find out more about this simple, powerful and beautiful process.
