About this Event

What if a simple change in how you approach your loved one living with dementia could transform the entire interaction?

This practical, hands-on workshop is designed especially for family and friends supporting someone living with dementia, including those navigating mild cognitive impairment or other brain changes. You’ll learn how to connect more effectively using the Positive Physical Approach™ (PPA™) and Hand-under-Hand® techniques—developed by internationally respected dementia expert Teepa Snow.

Whether you’re helping with daily care, companionship, or simply want to feel more confident and connected in your interactions, this session will equip you with gentle, respectful strategies that reduce distress and foster trust.

What You’ll Learn:

How vision changes and shifting spatial awareness affect how your loved one sees and interprets the world
Why common greetings or touch can confuse or startle—and how the Positive Physical Approach™ can make interactions smoother and more supportive
Simple ways to safely assist with walking, eating, grooming, and other daily tasks using the Hand-under-Hand® technique
How to adapt your approach for loved ones who may be asleep, visually impaired, or coping with additional medical conditions
A better understanding of what your loved one is experiencing—and how to meet them with compassion, not correction

What to Expect:

You’ll watch demonstrations, try out techniques with gentle coaching, and walk away with tools you can begin using immediately. This is a supportive, no-pressure space to build confidence and care more effectively.
